Questions and Answers

When is the best time to book a session?

Babies don't come to plan, but you can book an approximate time for you photo session from about 22 weeks of pregnancy in line with your due date. Then, once your baby is born please contact me within 48 hours to arrange a specific date and time. The best time to photograph a newborn is between 5 -14 days old as they are generally still quite sleepy and curled up.

However, if you have already had your baby and want to request a booking then please contact me and I will try my very best to fit you in.

Is there a booking fee?

Yes, to secure your initial booking a £50 booking fee is payable, but this is deducted from the package amount you choose. I also request that a booking form be completed so I have all your details and requirements from an early stage. I will refund the booking fee up to 48 hours before any session takes place and if you are unable to make a confirmed booking I will re-book once under the same booking fee.

Do you have a studio?

Yes I have a purpose built studio in the garden at my home. Please see the section "My Studio" for further details. I no longer travel to clients homes due to the additional time and costs involved.

How will I receive the photos to chose from?

I edit my photos myself and this will take around 2-3 weeks. Photos (proofs) will then be available online through my clients gallery, so you can chose which photos you would like according to the package you have purchased. All monies are due in full prior to the newborn shoot, however if you then wish to upgrade your package this can be agreed and the additional monies paid prior to downloading or obtaining the associated products.

How long do I get to chose my package and photos?

Client galleries will stay accessible on my website for 30 days before being automatically removed (unless otherwise prearranged by the Client). If after this time you wish them to be made available again this is no problem but there will be an admin charge of £25.

Is there anything I need to prepare before I come to the photo shoot?

Not really, however if your baby has a pacifier/dummy then please feel free to bring this with you, along with all your normal nappy changing supplies. There will be time for you to feed your baby at the start of the session if they are due a feed or during, as and when required. If you would like photos of your babies hands and feet you may wish to trim their nails neatly but it is not essential. I fully appreciate how tiring and stressful the early days with a newborn can be so please don't worry too much about preparation and try to relax and enjoy the experience. If you are running late that's also fine but I would really appreciate a quick message just to let me know how long you are likely to be.

Please feel free to bring light refreshments and any drinks for yourself since you may need this to keep you going and hydrated.

I would advise that you wear lightweight layered clothes as the room may have to be quite warm at times to facilitate the removing of your babies clothes without them getting cold.

What methods of payment do you take?

I prefer bank transfer or payment by Paypal for bookings but will take cash payments for the shoot on the day. I will provide Bank/Paypal details at the time of booking and full payment must be made prior to the shoot commencing.

Can I print my own photos?

Yes once purchased and downloaded you may of course use the photos as you wish. However if you have the photos printed by any other source I cannot be held responsible for the quality of the end product since all printers will use different materials and methods. There can be significant differences between colours across printers so I have test printed my photos with Loxley Colour and products can be ordered directly by them from your Gallery. As I edit my photos individually you do not need to request a corrected print. If you do select the corrected option the colours may look slightly different.

Do you provide prints and products?

Yes. I have a professional photo printer at home that uses pigment inks and can produce archival quality prints on a variety of photo papers, ingluding gloss, lustre and matte. I can print up to A3+ in size (329mm x 483mm). I can also prepare albums and canvas's via Loxley Colour and other professional print labs.
